Things to know before hiking Machu Picchu
I will try to explain all points shortly. Please read carefully and don’t miss any points.
- You need to buy your ticket in advance. Try to buy a ticket before 6 months. During peak season, you may not find any tickets available before 1 year.
- Keep your ticket printed before visiting Machu Picchu.
- You will need your passport number to purchase a ticket to hike Machu Picchu. Also, keep your passport with you when you hike Machu Picchu. You will get stamped while visiting Machu Picchu.
- Try to visit Machu Picchu in the morning. Otherwise, you may not get time to see Machu Picchu.
- There Are No Bathrooms Beyond the Main Entrance. You’ll find a restaurant and bathroom outside the Machu Picchu gate.
- If you don’t have a guide with you still want to hike. Don’t worry, when you arrive at Machu Picchu, there will be plenty of guides outside the entrance offering their service to you.
- Machu Picchu is near the equator. So, don’t forget to bring the right clothes and sunblock before visiting. Wear pants instead of shorts. The biting insects in Machu Picchu are merciless.
- A larger bag is not allowed. The allowed bag size is (15.7 inches x 13.7 inches x 7.9 inches)
- A professional camera and Tripod are not allowed
- You can take a water bottle when hiking Machu Picchu
- You can use Bus and train to visit Machu Picchu
Best time to visit Machu Picchu
It rains often at Machu Picchu during the wet season (November–March). That’s why you can’t hike at Machu Picchu in the wet season. If you want the best chance to see Machu Picchu, you should plan to go in the dry season (May-October). The busiest period is from June to August.
